Unknown files are being recognized as one of the biggest security threats to organizations today, catching the attention of chief executive officers, chief information officers and chief security officers, as well as the board of directors. Highly- publicized data breaches at Target, Home Depot and Sony have raised the awareness level of the damage that unknown files can cause. What was once a simple computer virus has evolved into a sophisticated malware that can be the basis for an advanced persistent threat (APT) attack designed to wrest sensitive data and wreak financial harm.  It’s time to deal with the unknown files that are gaining access to networks and causing mega breaches.  During this discussion we will be discus the 3 different states a file can exist, the traditional approaches to solving this problem, and why those traditional approaches don’t work.
